Agricultural Extension and Rural Development
WELCOME MESSAGE
Department of Agricultural Extension and Rural Development, Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko is one of the six departments in the Faculty of Agriculture. The Department was created in 2013/2014 academic session. The Department trains students in theory and practice of agricultural extension and engages in rural development activities with a view to improving farmers’ standard of living through effective and efficient information dissemination to farmers in the catchmement area.
The main goal of the Department is to produce students who, apart from being able to assume leadership position, will be able to create employment opportunities for people, particularly in the field of Agriculture and improve on the well being of rural dwellers. The Department also collaborates with government and Non-Government Organisations (NGOs) and agencies across the globe in ensuring that farmers utilize research output appropriately through the provision of needs based extension services for sustainable agriculture and rural development. In the Department, both students and farmers are exposed to research findings from the other Departments within the Faculty for easy research results uptake.
The Department has several areas of specialization, namely: Rural community development, Rural women and gender studies, Training in extension, extension administration, communication in extension, evaluation in extension, adoption studies, programme planning in extesion, group dynamics and leadership studies in rural community, indigenous knowledge system etc. within the discipline itself and all these provide opportunities for students to realize their long life-long goals. We offer admission to both indigenous and international students who desire to experience development issues with respect to Agriculture and rural development. The Department is equipped with modern teaching and learning facilities as well as experienced lecturers. The offices and classrooms are well equipped for effective and efficient teaching and learning process.
The Department awards B.Agric in Agricultural Extension and Rural Development.
