English Admission Requirements





PROGRAMME
The Department of English Studies offers a combination of undergraduate courses leading to the award of the B.A. (Hons.) degree in English Studies. The duration of the B.A. (Hons.) degree programme in English Studies is four (4) years for UTME candidates and three (3) years for Direct Entry candidates.
REQUIREMENTS FOR UTME CANDIDATES
  • To be admitted to the four-year degree programme in the Department of English Studies, candidates must have a credit pass in at least five subjects at the Ordinary Level of the WASC/SSC/NECO examination at not more than two sittings. The five subjects include English Language, Literature in English, Mathematics and any TWO of the following: Christian Religious Knowledge/Islamic Religious Knowledge, History, Government, Yoruba, Igbo, Hausa, French, Fine Arts or Music.

  • UTME Subjects: UTME candidates are required to take the following subjects: English Language, Literature in English and any other two subjects chosen from the following subjects: English Language, Literature in English and any other TWO of the following: Christian Religious Knowledge/Islamic Religious Knowledge, History, Government, Yoruba, Igbo, Hausa, French, Fine Arts or Music.

REQUIREMENTS FOR DIRECT ENTRY CANDIDATES
  • In addition to the requirements in (i) above, candidates must possess a Diploma (ND) in Mass Communication (UPPER CREDIT) from a recognized Polytechnic/College of Technology. The Department will not admit candidates with NCE.
