Accounting Admission Requirements




ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
Candidates must have at least five credit passes in Ordinary Level (O/L) examination or its equivalent at not more than two sittings. The five credit passes must include English Language, Mathematics, Economics or Commerce and any two other subjects. For UTME, a Candidate is expected to sit for English Language, Mathematics, Economics and any one of Commerce, Principles of Accounting, Geography and Government.
For Direct Entry, a candidate is expected to possess Advanced Level passes in Accounting and at least any one of Economics, Mathematics and Business Management, in addition to the Ordinary Level requirements.
Candidates who possess pass in the whole of the Foundation Examination of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) or of any other recognized Accountancy body or pass in all the stages of the Accounting Technicians Scheme are also qualified to be considered for direct entry admission. Diploma certificate in accountancy from any recognized higher Institution is also eligible. Adekunle Ajasin University Diploma certificate in Accounting OND certificate holders with at least an upper credit pass in Accounting are also eligible. All such candidates must however possess the basic ordinary level requirements as stated above.
REQUIREMENT FOR AWARD OF DEGREE:
For a student to qualify for the award of degree in Accounting, he/she ought to have satisfactorily offered the following categories of courses:
  1. Core (Compulsory Courses): These are courses which must be offered and passed by all students in any undergraduate programme.
  2. Elective Courses: These are courses which must be registered under the advice of the department as required courses and must be passed by a student in order to graduate.
  3. Attachment of students to reputable organizations like firms of Chartered Accountants, Banks, Companies, Educational Institutions, Civil service, etc; for a period not less than 6 months to coincide with the period between the end of 1st semester in 300 level and the preceding 1st Semester in 400 level.
  4. A prerequisite course is one in which a student must earn at least 35% before he/she can be permitted to register for the course to which it is a prerequisite.
