Admission Requirements for Computer Science Department
Candidates seeking admission into the Department of Computer Science must obtain credits in Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics, Physics, English Language and any other Science subject at SSCE/GCE-O level/NECO Examination at no more than two sittings.
UTME subjects: English Language, Chemistry, Biology / Physics, Mathematics.
B.Sc. DEGREE PROGRAMME IN COMPUTER SCIENCE DURATION: Candidates who enter through the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) normally spend 4 years (Minimum), while the Direct Entry candidates spend 3 years (Minimum).
REQUIREMENTS FOR AWARD OF DEGREE
To be eligible for the award of the B.Sc. Honours degree in Computer Science, a candidate must offer and pass a total of 148 credit units, made up of:
FOUNDATION COURSES = 24 UNITS
COMPULSORY COURSES = 104 UNITS
ELECTIVE COURSES = 13 UNITS
GST COURSES = 7 UNITS
Direct Entry candidates are required to satisfactorily complete a minimum of 120 units. A student must register for a minimum of 15 credit units and a maximum of 24 credit units each semester.
REGISTRATION FOR COURSES
(i) Candidates must register for the specified compulsory, required and elective courses in the programme.
(ii) Courses designated as pre – requisites to other courses must be taken with a score of at least 30% obtained there to be eligible to offer the specified follow-up courses.
(iii) The minimum workload is 15 units and the maximum 24 units for each semester. Permission for waiver must be obtained from the HOD subject to Senate approval.
(iv) A student can withdraw from a course without penalty within the time stipulated by Senate, and then only with the approval of the HOD on completion of the “add/delete” form. Any student who withdraws from a course without permission will be deemed to have failed the course.
