HOD, WELCOME SPEECH
Welcome to the Department of Social Science Education that houses the following academic programmes:- Economics Education, Accounting Education, Political Science Education, Geography Education and Social Studies Education. Thank you for trying to know more about the Department. If you have just been offered admission into the Department, we congratulate you and we wholeheartedly welcome you. The Department became an independent entity in September 2005. Before then it had been part of another Department right from the establishment of the University in 1999. Initially, it was part of the Department of Education Foundations, which later transformed into the Departments of Business and Social Studies Education, Art Education, and Social Science Education. Each programme in the current Department is combined with education in the Faculty of Education. Students who specialise in Science graduate with B.Sc. Ed (Hons) while those who specialise in Social Science graduate with B.Ed (Hons). With the exception of Social Studies which is taught in-house, lecturers in the Faculty of Social and Management Sciences teach the content aspect of the Department’s curriculum, while lecturers in the Faculty of Education handle the professional and method aspects of the subjects involved. The Department has twelve academic staff who are professionally qualified with experience to match. They are scholars of high repute in their different fields of specialization. I have no doubt that you are going to amply benefit from their wealth of experience.
