HOD’S WELCOME ADDRESS
On behalf of staff and students, I welcome you to the Department of Pure and Applied Psychology, Faculty of Social and Management Sciences, Adekunle Ajasin Universiy, Akungba- Akoko, Ondo State, Nigeria. The goal of the department is to attract and train independently minded students who appreciate the values of human beings and can make them to the knowledge-based strategies to solve human problems.The programmes are tailored towards the redirection of man towards psychological well- being and mental health to enable him to function effectively not only as a psychologically well-adjusted individual but also as a person who will, through such adjustments, contribute positively to national development as well as the human environment. Candidates are normally admitted through the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board(JAMB). To qualify for admission into the 4-year programme, candidates are required to obtain a minimum score of 180-200 (depending on the University cut-off marks). Apart from passing the UTME, candidates must have at least 5 credit passes in English Language, Mathematics, Biology, and ANY other 2 Social Science subjects (from Economics, Geography and Government) at not more than two sittings in ordinary level or its equivalent. Candidates with higher qualifications may apply for a three-year programme through the Direct Entry mode coordinated by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).
The Department runs a programme leading to the award of the degree of Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) and higher degree programmes that lead to the award of the M.Sc and Ph.D with specializations in Clinical, Social, Developmental, Health, Experimental and Industrial/Organisational Psychology. Besides these, the Department also runs part-time courses (under the Institute of Part-Time Programme, IPTP) leading to the award of Bachelor of Science, B.Sc and Master in Managerial Psychology, MMP. The B.Sc programme is for a minimum of 10 semesters (5years) while the MMP is for a period of 4 semesters (2years). The department has already concluded plans which have been approved by the appropriate committees of the University for Senate approval for the establishment of a professional Master in Security Psychology, MSP, programme on full time basis. Hopefully, this will start by 2017/2018 session.
